Birthday tradition

On the last day of Chinese New Year, we had our share of tradition right here at home.

On their first birthday, Chinese babies are given 6 objects, everyone of which represents a different future for the child. Money stands for wealth and a career in banking or accounting, a brush stands for creativity and a career in writing or painting, etc etc.

We laid them out on the floor, and put Nelson in front of them. Without thinking twice he crawled towards the objects, and picked up the brush. An artist in the making!

(sorry daddy, not the car, not the banknote, not even the gong...)
